Inexperienced Trudeau Walked into an American Trap and Got Two Canadians Arrested in China

Friendly but inexperienced Trudeau has been taken by a surprise. You do not need big brain media expert to predict that after Canadian courts gave an adverse judgment on Huwaei executive’s detention at the behest of US, this was going to happen. Trudeau does not have that much brains to anticipate that. It resulted in Chinese moving to charge the two Canadian with flimsy espionage charges. The arrest and detention action is a poor judgement on the part of Canadian government. It immediately became party to US - China trade fight. Now what choices does Canada has?  It has to stay friendly to US hence keep holding the important Chinese Huwaei executive. In the process two innocent Canadian will be Chinese prison guest for a very long time. There is another way, which Chinese may understand better and that is to impose huge duty on Chinese made goods coming to Canada. This may work as China values trade more than anything else. In US, the Trump administration has very successfully imposed duties on Chinese goods. That may bring some manufacturing back to US, but greater impact is psychological. All cheap poor quality Chinese goods importer will think twice before placing order in China. That model could be adopted by Canada. It will also wean out public from cheap Chinese good

The net result - whither Canada and its neutralistic policies. It has picked multiple fights in Asia. It cannot handle all that adverse political and trade fights.

In fact, this is an International Forum on Economic Cooperation also known as I2U2. It has American blessings, but no formal declaration.
